In a market with ever-shifting headwinds and violent portfolio rotation, the founding Templars meditated on an answer to the question: “How does a DeFi Protocol grow sustainable value?"

The DeFi environment is fertile ground for the destructive boom and bust cycles that plague true innovation. Spice Bazaar is a unique secondary marketplace for the volatile holdings in the Temple Treasury. These holdings consist of tokens from yield farming, liquidity bootstrapping deals, and vested tokens from Partner activities that were seeded by TempleDAO.

The key to the Spice Bazaar is a fair Auction mechanic that drives cash flow to the Treasury in a sustainable manner through USDS bids for Temple Gold ([TGLD](/technical-reference/contracts)), while mitigating price pressure on Partner tokens and promoting further cooperation.

By earning Temple Gold through staking or bidding, both TEMPLE holders and non-holders can transact directly with the Temple Treasury via the two Auction Types as follows:

# Gold Auctions

Temple Gold is the exclusive base currency for Spice Auctions. During these periodic Auctions, Temple Gold ([TGLD](/technical-reference/contracts)) may be exchanged for select Temple Treasury holdings which are not included in the stable backing as reflected by the [Temple Price Index](/temple-codex/treasury-price-index) (TPI).&#x20;

TGLD can only be acquired in two ways:

* Stake TEMPLE for TGLD emissions
* Bid USDS for TGLD in Gold Auctions

In a Gold Auction, both TEMPLE holders and non-holders may submit USDS bids in exchange for Temple Gold. *You do not need TEMPLE to place USDS bids for TGLD!* The final Gold unit price will not be settled until the end of the auction once all bids have been received. The last valid USDS Bid will set the final price for TGLD. To avoid gaming to discourage Bids, USDS bids are **final** once they are submitted even if the auction isn't over.

Submitting USDS Bids early or late does not affect the final price you will receive for TGLD. The total USDS submitted as Bids for a given lot determines the final unit price for TGLD in USDS terms.

### Temple Gold Auction Example

> *A total of 1,000,000 TGLD was put up for Auction and a total of 50,000 USDS was submitted by Bidders by the end of the Auction. The final price for TGLD is 0.05 USDS and each Bidder can claim 20 TGLD per USDS pro rata. Since Alice bid 500 USDS, she'd receive 10,000 TGLD or 1% of the auction lot. Since Bob bid 5,000 USDS, he'd receive 100,000 TGLD or 10% of the auction lot. Only USDS bids that were submitted before Auction expiry are valid.*

TGLD is fully cross-chain compatible through LayerZero to allow holders to participate in potential Spice auctions on other chains e.g. Berachain. Whether acquired through TEMPLE staking or Gold Auctions, TGLD are fungible and can be used in Spice Auctions on any supported chain. However, TGLD are only minted on Ethereum and may be bridged on a 1:1 burn/mint basis to a supported chain.

TGLD utility is enforced at a contract level subject to DAO governnance. Currently, TGLD can only be acquired through bidding USDS or staking TEMPLE. There are no future plans to integrate Spice Bazaar with external dApps e.g DEX to facilitate swaps or collateralisation.&#x20;

Gnosis users should contact the TempleDAO Team if they wish to bridge TGLD to another chain because TGLD can only be bridged to the same address cross-chain. It's possible that TGLD credited to a Gnosis Smart Contract may need to be transferred to a EoA wallet before bridging.

TGLD is **non-transferrable except to whitelisted addresses** and cannot be found on any exchange or spot market. There is NO secondary liquidity for TGLD outside of the Spice Bazaar. Any purported external liquidity pools for TGLD are fraudulent!&#x20;

# Spice Auctions

The Temple Treasury will hold periodic auctions for select volatile holdings. These auctions are known as Spice Auctions and should not be confused with [Temple Gold Auctions](https://docs.templedao.link/spice-bazaar/gold-auctions).&#x20;

Collectively, the tokens that are put up in the Spice Auction are known as SPICE. The SPICE Tokens may be any suitable volatile token, but may consist of airdropped or vested tokens from Treasury or Partner activities. Spice Auction details about which SPICE tokens and the auction lot size will be announced well ahead of the start of the Spice Auction.

Spice Auction listings are often derived from tokens received from Partners via pre-TGE agreements or airdrop stemming from farming activities. Not all volatile tokens are reserved for Spice Auctions. Some may be directly sold on the spot markets to sustain [TPI growth](/temple-codex/treasury-price-index).

The only accepted currency in the Spice Auction is [Temple Gold](/spice-bazaar/gold-auctions) (TGLD). USDS cannot be used to bid in Spice Auctions and there's no zap feature for TGLD. Depending on the total value of a given volatile token, the lot may be split into several smaller Auctions also known as *Epochs* to promote Bidder participation and reduce the chance of "bid sniping".&#x20;

Each Epoch will typically last 3 - 7 days and all TGLD bidders will receive the same *pro rata* price in TGLD for the SPICE at the end of the Auction. The last accepted TGLD Bid will set the final price for SPICE. To avoid gaming to discourage Bids, TGLD bids are **final** once they are submitted even if the auction expiry has not been reached.

Spice Auction Tokens may be found trading at fair market price on external exchanges. Given the unique mechanics of Temple Gold, TGLD holders may discover a potential arbitrage opportunity by acquiring TGLD in advance to bid on SPICE through future Spice Auctions.&#x20;

### Spice Auction Example

> *A total of 100,000 Token Y was put up for Auction and a total of 1,000,000 TGLD was submitted by Bidders before Auction expiry. The final price for Token Y is 10 TGLD and each Bidder can claim 0.1 Token Y per TGLD pro rata. Since Alice bid 10,000 TGLD, she'd receive 1,000 Token Y or 1% of the auction lot. Since Bob bid 100,000 TGLD, he'd receive 10,000 Token Y or 10% of the auction lot.*


# TGLD Emissions

The mint function for the Temple Gold contract ([TGLD](/technical-reference/contracts)) is a public function. When mint () is called, the following formula is used to calculate how much TGLD will be minted:

# Treasury Price Index

### Treasury Price Index (TPI)

The [Treasury Price Index](https://templedao.medium.com/the-new-temple-b121c2aaded4) is a metric for the stablecoin backing per TEMPLE token. TPI tracks the stable backing per TEMPLE through our innovative "TPI Drip" mechanic. Over time, as we reap the rewards from Treasury activities and liquidated into stablecoins, the TPI will grow accordingly.&#x20;

TempleDAO utilises a novel AMO (Algorithmic Market Operation) liquidity manager called [RAMOS](https://templedao.medium.com/the-new-temple-b121c2aaded4) to support TEMPLE price at a level no lower than its TPI metric.

The Treasury may holds volatile assets which are not directed toward TPI growth. Subject to DAO governance, certain volatile tokens may be reserved for [Spice Auctions](/spice-bazaar/spice-auctions).


# RAMOS

### Random Automated Market Operations Support (RAMOS)

RAMOS is an [AMO](https://coinmarketcap.com/alexandria/glossary/algorithmic-market-operations-amos) liquidity manager contract that allows the Temple Protocol to both stabilise the trading range of TEMPLE or any token and anchor the price to any policy-driven price such as the [Treasury Price Index](/temple-codex/treasury-price-index).

Historically, RAMOS smart contract was deployed to manage the TempleDAO Protocol owned Liquidity (PoL) which consisted of a [50/50 TEMPLE/DAI LP](https://balancer.fi/pools/ethereum/v2/0x8bd4a1e74a27182d23b98c10fd21d4fbb0ed4ba00002000000000000000004ed) on Balancer. RAMOS contract functions may be called by bots via off-chain automation infrastructure.

#### How RAMOS Can be Applied to TEMPLE:

* Support the TEMPLE price when it trades below the TPI
* Recapitalise the treasury when TEMPLE trades at an "excessive" premium over the TPI
* Stake and farm the LP token on the underlying DEX to maximise gauge rewards

RAMOS will be active whenever the TEMPLE price falls below a target policy price such as the Treasury Price Index (TPI). However, the target price is not a hard floor and at times the token may trade at a discount or a premium to the target price. Similarly, RAMOS may also be active when the policy-prescribed upper bound of TEMPLE is reached.

### When spot price is more than 1% below TPI

* RAMOS will *periodically* rebalance and single-asset withdraw TEMPLE liquidity from the LP and burn the tokens to raise the TEMPLE price in the Balancer pool.

### When spot price is more than 3% below TPI

* RAMOS will *always* trigger a rebalance and single-asset withdraw TEMPLE liquidity from the LP and burn the tokens to raise the TEMPLE price in the Balancer pool.

### When spot price is more than 3%  above TPI

* RAMOS will *single-asset deposit* TEMPLE into the LP to recapitalize the pool. Alternatively, RAMOS may *single-asset withdraw* stables as a *de facto bonding system* to recapitalise the Treasury during periods of strong demand.&#x20;

Furthermore, RAMOS was designed to take advantage of volatility in a way that is less susceptible to MEV attacks and front-running that can confound other AMO systems:

* **Randomized Timing**: RAMOS does not rebalance on a fixed schedule. Aa randomisation logic will be applied with respect to the timing and the size of the rebalance. At default settings, a rebalance will be triggered 2–3 times per day on average. If the TEMPLE price falls too far below the policy bound, a rebalance will be triggered automatically to protect the TPI.
* **Randomized Rebalance to Raise the Price**: The number of Balancer Pool Tokens (BPT) that RAMOS will use to rebalance the liquidity pool is also randomised. RAMOS will calculate the number of BPT tokens required to fully close the gap between current price and TPI and check the price impact of the operation. Then it will extract anywhere between 50%-100% of that number to single-asset withdraw tokens.
* **Randomized Rebalance to Recapitalise the Pool**: When spot price trades above TPI, RAMOS will close anywhere from 1% to 10% of the gap between the current price and TPI per rebalance event by depositing more TEMPLE tokens to recapitalise the pool.&#x20;

Rebalances to the downside are designed to be extremely mild to allow TEMPLE to trade at a significant premium to the TPI.

# Temple Loving Care

Temple Loving Care, also known as TLC, is designed to allow users to access a short-term line of credit when they supply their TEMPLE token as collateral.

TLC parameters have been set to a flat 15% borrow APR from 0-90% utilisation. Above 90% the rate will rise linearly until it reaches 20% at 100% utilisation.

Users should be aware that TEMPLE tokens that are supplied in TLC cannot be staked for TGLD emissions in the [Spice Bazaar](broken://pages/bE1t6wkvu3ZHdB8Zewsy) until the debt has been repaid and the TEMPLE collateral is withdrawn from TLC.

The max loan-to-value (LTV) has been raised from 75% to 85% with on-chain liquidation LTV set to 90%. Furthermore, the TLC borrow rate is now **fixed at any utilisation ratio** from 0% to 100%+ of the TLC Debt Ceiling.&#x20;

# Deprecated Functions

TempleDAO has undergone a series of changes since its inception. As a result, certain TEMPLE functions or products have been deprecated such as OGTemple and Temple Core Vaults.

Users who wish to retrieve their TEMPLE tokens from these legacy contracts should do the following:

2. Choose from one of the two options

# Claim From Vaults

Temple Core Vaults are deprecated. If you have previously locked your TEMPLE in the Temple Core Vaults, you should claim your TEMPLE token along with any associated TEMPLE rewards.&#x20;

# Unstake OGT

OGTemple is no longer supported. If you still hold any OGTEMPLE, you should unstake the OGTEMPLE and unwrap back to regular TEMPLE tokens.

## Contract Ownership

TempleDAO utilises a Gnosis Safe multi-signature smart contract to execute the protocol’s Administrative and Treasury operations. Critical protocol contract functions are restricted by [onlyOwner](https://github.com/OpenZeppelin/openzeppelin-contracts/blob/master/contracts/access/Ownable.sol) to prevent unauthorised changes or updates. Additionally, none of Temple’s smart contracts are upgradeable. If any contract logic needs to be changed, the entire contract must be redeployed.
